Blogging For A Cause: Asking For Some Of That Bloggy Love For My Big Bro

This has been extended for 3 more weeks

My Big Bro, whom I love dearly, has had a rough time of it lately. He had a good job as the Network Administrator for his local school district and worked in the rental office of his apartment complex to supplement his income. He lost both jobs within two weeks of each other. Kev is a former police officer and is a trained surgical technician, but just can't seem to find a job in any of his skilled areas. He is also an awesome web designer, but hasn't had much business with that lately, either. He has even tried getting a job at the fast food restaurants or retail, but he always gets told he is overqualified, which means "We aren't going to hire you, sorry". The economy sucks and he desperately wants to make his own way, but he keeps getting roadblocks thrown in front of him.

He just received a late rent notice today and has about two weeks to come up with his back rent or face eviction {He was supposed to have arrangements with his former boss/apartment manager, but the DM reneged on them}. He has always paid his own way, has never been on welfare or anything like it and is not at all proud about this turn of events. If I had the money, his rent would be paid, but sadly, I do not. It absolutely breaks my heart to not be able to personally help my Brother. The thought of him becoming homeless and losing most of his possessions makes me cry. So I decided to do a bloggy fundraiser for him. My goal is to raise $1200 within two weeks, but anything will help him out.

So please, will you help out my Big Bro with a donation of any size? Or how about ordering a web design from him {contact me for details on how to order}? Then you will both win. He earns money by doing something he loves {He doesn't really like being a charity case} and you get an awesome new design. He lives in Alabama. I live in California, and there is no real family for us to ask to help him out. He is completely embarrassed by not being able to make it himself, but you know what? No one needs a hand out, but everybody could use a hand~up every once in a while. Please help if you can. If you can't donate, could you blog about it, post the donate button on your site or send out an email? I would be forever grateful to you.

Blogging is a wonderful thing. It creates a space that we can all share our lives, trials and tribulations. It connects random strangers with the best of intentions. Every time we need to share, find consolation, or laugh we turn to each other. The greatest thing is the fact that among us all we have the ability to reach out to thousands, even millions of people (if you’re Dooce). I follow your blogs religiously, and nothing provides me with as much entertainment as you all do. But now, I am turning to you for a little help.

One of my oldest girlfriends, Toni, needs help. Her husband and two children were in a car accident with a tractor trailer truck. Her husband took the brunt of the injuries while trying to maneuver the car to protect his children. The kids are ok, and are only suffering from broken bones. Jamie, her husband, was not as lucky, and is on a long road to recovery. This weekend there is a benefit being held in my hometown to raise money for the family, and the medical expenses that they are facing. Times are tight for everybody. We are all feeling the pinch, however, I am trying to raise as much money as possible to present to them this weekend at the spaghetti dinner fundraiser.

I have posted a widget on my blog to accept donations for the family. I am reaching out to my fellow bloggers in hopes that you might take a moment of your time to repost this information and ask your loyal readers to help out this young, struggling family in their time of need.
