Mark Your Calendars, It's The End Of The World As We Know It...

...And I feel fine!

So did I get your attention, yet?

According to a show I saw on The History Channel last night, the world is going to end December 21, 2012. WOW! Amazing how the scientists & archaeologists can determine Armageddon to the day!

This theory is based on a few things, but mainly the fact that in 2012, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, from the Earth's perspective (an event that only happens every 26,000 years) and that the Mayan Calendar (the basis of all standard calendars) ends on December 21, 2012. The predictive quatrains of Nostradamus and a little Bible code is thrown in there for good measure. Kind of scary, don't you think, since the Mayan Calendar started way back in 3114 B.C., and has accurately predicted every eclipse, equinox & solstice for the last 5000 years?

The thing I find both the most interesting & frightening is that many religions, cultures & faiths who agree on nothing else, have ancient texts that predict the year 2012 as being the apocalyptic year. The Hopi Indians, the I-Ch'ing, the Jewish Torah & the Bible (using the "Bible Code" some mathematician came up with) all show 2012 as D-day.

Although I have known about Nostradamus & the 2012 prediction for quite a while, it is weird that the date is now so close. I remember back in 11th grade, a girl in my Government class didn't come to school one May day because Nostradamus had predicted that day as having a devastating earthquake. It didn't happen & I remember laughing at her, telling her it was all how someone else had interpreted the text & probably not what the author really meant. That was true then, but now we have all these other texts agreeing on only one thing...2012 is the end of the world.

I love all this Apocalyptic/Armageddon stuff (we used to watch a marathon of it every New Year's Eve), but now that we are only less than four years away from "The Date" and I am a Mom, I am having nightmares. I wonder, could this really be true? If it is, will God give us a chance to change his mind and not let us be destroyed? As certain as I am of my name being written in The Book of Life, I still do not want any harm to come to my daughter or heathen Husband (He isn't saved, not really. He still believes he can get into Heaven through works, not faith). The day of the Rapture, I want all three of us to be taken up to Heaven, together.

Well, now that you all know that I really am nuttier than a fruitcake, what do you think of the current predictions being batted about? They really do make you think. Maybe it will make us all be a little bit nicer, a little more patient, a little more forgiving & a lot less worried about what we don't have and a whole lot more appreciative of what we do have. Maybe that is the whole point of it all. I know I don't want to only have my family for another four years, I want a lifetime.

I saw that program last night too! I find it interesting but not alarming.

I'm covered - Jesus so has my back.
Thomas is covered. The kids are covered. Check, check, check.

So, I'm not worried. I'm reminded when all these people were freaking out about the year 2000, and what? Nothing happened! And various cults have predicted the "end" - and those dates come and go - nothing. The bible specifically states that NO MAN will know the day or time!! But rather we should be in a state of readiness for God's timing.

So don't let this stuff get to you, ok????

If by some chance, the "experts" are correct, and the end is the year 2012, that gives you four years to help your hubby "see the light" so you all go to Heaven together. You wouldn't have just four years with your family, you would have eternity. Can't get any better than that.

I'm with Jeannie though, I don't necessarily believe man will be able to predict the end times. And we shouldn't need these kinds of scare tactics from "experts" to get us to live right.

Well, the "experts" were wrong about Y2K...my neighbor had his basement stocked with all of these freeze dried foods and bottled water (seriously, enough for a family of 4 to survive for one year!! Can you imagine??).
He ended up donating the freeze dried corn and stuff to missionaries.

Remember, "God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid, but one of power, love, and a sound mind."

the way i figure since Jesus said noone will know the hour or day all these idiots who keep guessing are just making him put it off longer and longer. of course that's probably pretty shallow but i like blaming the lack of the end of the world on idiots.

Hmm, I haven't heard anything about that.

Its so sad to think that we could only have 4 more years left, but I could walk out of my house and get struck by any one of the multitude of idiot drivers out there and be up in Heaven before dinnertime....so I just try to think of it like that.

And since my whole family has God in their hearts, I don't worry about being separated by an 'end of the world' thing. I worry more about a loved one dying of cancer or at the hands of a drunk driver and not being able to see them again until I get up to Heaven.

Whether that timetable is accurate or not, it definitely makes you think!
