Six Things I Love/Hate About Spring

This week's MomDot Small Talk Six On Saturdays topic is six things you love or hate about spring.

OK, you asked for it...

1) I love Spring because the flowers are in bloom and my daughter just loves them so. She adores picking them, making me bouquets and then trying to replant the picked flowers. It's adorable.

2) I love Spring because that is when Easter is observed. We get to celebrate The Resurrection of Christ AND dye Easter eggs, get loads of chocolate, cool Easter bonnets and pretty dresses for my little girl. This will also be the first year that The Diva will actually get to dye eggs. I can't wait!

3) I love Spring because it means days that are not too cold or too hot. And it also brings mild nights that are warm enough to let the Night Blooming Jasmine "bloom". I love that smell. It's intoxicating.

4) I hate Spring because it never lasts here in Southern California. We get a very few weeks of mild weather and then BOOM it's Summer. 100 degree plus days and Santa Ana winds in a house with no central air...it sucks. Contrary to popular belief, California is not 75 and sunny all the time. We have exactly two seasons here, cold and hot. And the hot can last well into November. I want to live somewhere that actually has all four seasons. The leaves turn and fall off the trees here in the second week of January. By the next week, the new buds are already blooming. It's the shortest Autumn ever.

5) I hate Spring because it only means my electricity bill is about to skyrocket from using our wall AC 24/7 for the next 9 months.

6) I hate Spring because my neighbor has three tree/bush things that bloom flowers that have such a stench that they induce killer migraines. And the migraines I get from these "flowers" can last up to a week. It is not fun, especially when The Diva wants Mama to go out and play in the yard with her.

I couldn't handle having things go chilly to hot so quickly. I love that our spring lasts a good 2 or 3 months!

I forgot about Easter. It's such an important holiday for me and it's coming soon.

That's one reason I love living where I do. We have few months of each season!

I didn't even think of the higher electric bills...ugh! My youngest likes to help care for the flowers too although I think he just likes sneaking in a drink from the hose!

I have a love/hate relationship with spring. I love the smell of freshly cut grass, but hate it too because I know my allergies will kick up (Im highly allergic to grasses, weeds and trees). I love the fact the trees are budding, but I hate the fact Im gonna be suffering in a few weeks (especially when the cherry and pear trees start to blossom). I love the warmish temps when you can wear pants or shorts and be comfy, but then that's just a sign of summer coming and the heat and humidity that I despise....

That's too bad about #6. Have you ever spoken to your neighbor about it or offered to pay to replace them with something else?

I can't blame ya for hating a short spring. I think I'd just melt if it got that hot here. I whine if it goes over 80.
