Why Are Children Today So Disrespectful?

Saturday, my Husband had me call the cops because some kids were trying to break into a foreclosed house across the street from us. In broad daylight. A few minutes ago, I just had to politely, but firmly, tell these same kids, plus a couple more, to get off my lawn. My exact words were "Hey guys, could you please get off my lawn?" I had to repeat myself and say "Its my lawn and I asked you to get off of it. Thank you." They looked at me like I was an alien and called me a bitch.
> What happened to children being taught to have respect for other people and their property? Don't I have the right to tell kids or adults to get off my property without being disrespected?

When did parents stop parenting their kids and start letting them run rampant through the world? My daughter is at that age where she is telling me "NO!" whenever I ask her or tell her to do something. But she's 4 1/2, not 12 or 13. I do not get how kids today think they are in charge of the whole damn world. If I ever acted like that, my parents would have whipped my ass. I was taught not to touch things that aren't mine, respect my elders, say please and thank you and not treat other people's property like it was my own. I am teaching The Diva the same thing.

So what happened to these kids?

About 30 minutes before I asked the kids to vacate my lawn, I watched some teen girls stick their friend in an open ended barrel and let her roll down the hill into the street my house sits on. Uh, yeah, that's a brilliant move.

Parent: "How did she get hit by the car?"

Friend: "Well she wanted to roll down the hill in the barrel. We didn't think a car would be coming down the street."

Yep, there's one that's going to Harvard.

I think I am glad I pay attention to my daughter and am so strict with her. Because if my daughter rolled down a hill in a barrel and subsequently got hit by a car, you can believe that I would be beating her like an unwanted red headed step child once I found out she was alright. I want to know where these kids brains are at. More importantly, I want to know where the hell their parents are.

These are the future leaders of our country and world. God help us all!

I sometimes wondering the same thing. They do it to look cute. I can say to this day and my daughter is 8 years old she can not play outside unless I am out there with her. I have watched WAY to many shows on kids being taken. I freak because my sister lets her daughter ride her bike outside a lone and shes younger then my daughter. Smart ass kids now a days anyways. My husband wants to get a paintball gun and shoot the ones who think they run the world. The smash our mailbox at least 6 times a year. Those things are expensive.

I blame Obama.

On the other hand, shoot the little fuckers and call it culling the herd.

The paintball sounds like a good idea, but get the paintballs that are filled with pepper spray, that'll learn 'em.

I watched these tween boys one day perform this brilliant move: They took a large trashcan that has wheels on the back so it can be moved easily and layed it down, wheels down, on the top of our street. The street has a long, steady incline and though we haven't much traffic we have mostly idiots that think it's necessary to gun it from the top of the street to the bottom and they pay no attention to any other traffic or animals or people that might be on or near the road! Anyway, one dumbass, I mean boy, climbed into the disgustingly filthy trashcan, the other boy laid on TOP of it, they put a skateboard under the front of it and the third dipshit, I mean boy, gave the can a good shove and down they flew.....until they hit a rock and the skateboard came loose! The can came to a SUDDEN HALT and the the boy inside came FLYING out of it like a cannonball! The boy on top flipped ass over head off the can and landed on the road on his back. The other dipwad, I mean boy...uh, well can you say ROAD RASH? Yeah...smart....real smart. I watch my kids...I TRY hard to teach them to respect and also to use their freakin' BRAINS!!! It's hard with so many disrespectful, unwatched brats around! LISA

So true, If ONLY more parents were like us. My daughter is 13 months old but we are already teaching manners and respect (as much as you CAN with a baby LOL) But you said it perfectly- PAY ATTENTION to her, forever, lol, even at thirty I will be there to lend a bit of advice if she wants it.

I don't know where the country went wrong, I know some people say we were bad too as kids and it is a generational thing, but I think it has gone beyond that, I mean kids now are BAD. I don't know if the parents of the parents now were too strict or too lenient, to make these parents just not be involved in the kids behavior, but somewhere something went horribly wrong...

I have to say that my kids seem a lot better behaved than I was when I was young, possibly due to a number of things. I was a largely a latchkey kid, lived in an urban area (and ran freely through it), and was surrounded by kids who were even more mouthy and daring than me. We regularly "borrowed" wagons from the supermarket and raced with them down a very crowded avenue, often taking pedestrians of all ages out in the process. My dreams and aspirations were more often than not dashed by my parents, whose idea of The Good Life was a union card (if you were male), and a secretarial job (if you were female).

I managed to get a job that was none of the above, marry a guy with a plan (well, at least the second time around I did), buy a house in an upper-middle-class suburb, and have been fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom and know what my kids are doing. Of course, they are getting older and are out there without me more and more, and I'm sure they test the waters of bad behavior. But I do hope for the most part they hear that little voice that tells them right from wrong.

The kids in my neighborhood, too, are quite well-behaved and respectful of others. It's quite a change for me, and I'm so very grateful.

I agree with you. I have a 13 year old and if she ever disrepected an adult we would have a big problem. Better yet her butt would have a big problem. Kids feel like they are entitled to everything even if it is not theirs.

I have noticed such a decline in manners. It really is frustrating. As a child I was scared of adults and respected them. Kids these days have NO respect.

WTH is wrong with people? Where are these kids parents? Honestly, I wonder what's going to become of this country if these are the ones who are going to inherit it. Downright scary.

Oh how I know this one first hand! I was a security guard at the mall and well, I was pretty much a babysitter to our youth. I remember having to kick some kids out and the boy proceeded to argue with me, then got on his cell phone as I was walking him out and yelled at whomever on the phone "This Bi*ch is kicking me out" Uh yeah, I called the cops since he wouldn't get moving.

I totally agree with you Shan, I have found over the years the kids are getting worse and worse. I know some of the stuff that I see now a days my parents would have whipped my behind. I put alot of it on the parents, but I have also seen kids come from good homes that are like this! I have a teenager that is really bad but she is the only one out of my kids like this !

I so can relate Kids run rampid round here too. I try to keep tabs on mine.

It's sad really. Parents these days just don't care what their kids do and don't seem to be teaching them decent language either.

Let someone try that with my hubby, he'd pummel em right there in the front yard.

LMBO! I can't BELIEVE they would do that in BROAD daylight? OMG.....we don't have neighbors....the blessing of living on 20 acres LOL

I so agree. Kids these days are so entitled sometimes it is sickening.

That's insane! I bet their parents were just glad they weren't the ones dealing with them. They sound like little gems! I am so not ready for the teen years. Someone wake me up when my kids are in their 20s!

Kids these days have no respect when I bought my house the first week we had kids small enough to be in diapers in my back yard. It is like a park back there. Thats when I made the rule that noone younger than my youngest is allowed over. He is 10 so no babies!

I have noticed that kids are very disrespectful nowadays. I haven't had a problem in my new neighborhood with the children over here, but when I lived in Alabama we had a few instances. I can't believe one of them called you an expletive. I don't know what would I have done if it were me.

Take care,
Shynea

Because parents are freaking lazy. I might be considered too hard on my kids esp for their age, but they say please, thank you and share in public. Respect is learned through example and discipline.

OMG YES! When I was teaching high school, the stuff that would come out of these kids' mouths was ASTOUNDING. I know I'm strict with my girls, but there's VERY good reason.

LadyStyx said...

My arse woulda been whipped if I did that...after the whippin, I woulda gotten grounded. My brother? Not so strict with his kids, but from what I can tell...they're fairly well behaved anyhow. Well...except the boy, but he's hyperactive (it runs in the family my brother's hyper and I'm high strung so I can just IMAGINE how our kids are gonna turn out if they ever decide to show up)...

I think parents are just too busy working to buy their kids things they don't need or appreciate, and not taking responsibility for actually RAISING their children. It's not a problem with our country or education, it's the damn PARENTS' fault!

The parents are too busy trying to "fit in" and be their child's "friend" to actually try parenting. I get along with my kids (13, 16, & 18), but I do not tolerate disrespect [at least of others]. When Megan was 11 (the 18 year old) she had a little fit when I picked her up from a sleepover. That was November. It was May before she could spend time (outside of school) with her friends again. She never did that again and she likes hanging out with me today. Go figure!

I was pretty much a latchkey kid too... but I was taught RESPECT somewhere... most likely my grandparents..
Respect went out the door when the 'powers that be' took discipline out of the homes & authority out of the schools.. the kids are turning into little nazis "telling" on the parents & any adult who doesn't let them have their way...
"smack" them right up the side of the head & teach them RESPECT! make them do some work around the house, don't just throw $$ at them. Even 2 income parents (& single parents) can do this if they want to! it takes time, but it does happen!
No more letting little Jonny tell Adults what to do, it IS suppose to be the other way around...
aarrgghhh
You can really tell the kids whose parents still do expect & get respect, I hope those kids grow up & beat the heck outta the ignorant ones that don't care or gave up...
